Bio

Hi y'all! My name is Maya and I am a Malayalee full-spectrum birthworker whose practice is rooted in valuing and upholding the sanctity of Black and Brown life. I believe that all birthing persons should be able to maintain autonomy over their own reproductive experiences. For that reason, advocacy is at the heart of my birthwork practice. I have practiced law since 2018, serving low-income tenants across California. As an attorney, I learned how to advocate for marginalized peoples in high-stress environments against bad actors, abuse of power, and discriminatory treatment. From the courtroom to the delivery room, I support folks in achieving their goals while demanding they be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect. And while I prepare you to find your own strength and advocate for yourself, I am unafraid to use my voice to stand up for you at all stages of your pregnancy and labor.

I'm tough because it's necessary, but the truth is I'm soft-hearted. When it comes to our relationship, my goal is to make you feel safe, seen, and heard. Because of that my clients describe me as a caring listener and warm presence. They say I am nurturing, friendly, and thoughtful.

My values shape my birth practice and how I move in this world. Some values of note: As part of my commitment to disability justice and in order to reduce the spread of airborne illnesses including but not limited to COVID-19, I wear a mask in public and around you. I am anti-diet culture and pro-fat liberation and believe people of all body sizes and types deserve real healthcare NOT arbitrary prescriptions to "lose weight." I am adamantly for Queer liberation and believe there is no future without Trans people, including Trans birthing people. I believe that together we can build a better world, and I am certain that Congo, Palestine, and Sudan will be free.

Please reach out to me by email at mayilbirthwork@proton.me if you'd like to schedule a consultation to see if we are the right fit. I am excited and honored to support you through your journey.
